Claire McGowan
Service Delivery Leader

What was your first job?
A Saturday girl at Woolworth’s
in Johnstone. When I started I was put in charge of the glue cupboard!
This meant when a customer wanted to purchase glue, I had to unlock the
cabinet. I quickly progressed on to the Record Bar, hence the obsession
with rave music.
What is your current role and what does it entail?
Managing
the Equal Access/In Work Support Service of Renfrewshire's Workforce
Plus Programme. This involves directing staff in relation to marketing
the service both to clients and partner agencies, ensuring service
levels are delivered by motivating staff and issuing clear objectives,
maintaining relationships between partners, maximise employment and
development opportunities for Clients and Employers of RWf+. What’s good about your job?
No
two days are the same. The pace of the work we do is fast and you feel
you’re in a position to make a real and positive impact on individuals'
lives. You get to meet with people from a variety of backgrounds and
get a real appreciation for the barriers they face and also the
knowledge and pressures partner agencies have.
And bad?
When
you don’t help someone. Either through their own personal issues or as
a result of the restrictions of funding guidelines.
