Paisley Youth Club Find Their Dancing Shoes
Tue, 5 Aug 2008

The children of Gallowhill youth club have swapped their school book for dance shoes this summer, to take part in street dance. The class runs twice a week at the Gallowhill community centre and hosts up to 40 children. Dance instructor Lauren Bryce from Right to Dance, who takes the class said:
“Street Dance is a great way to get children excited about exercise while promoting personal and social skills. The classes are designed to focus on fun, energy and creativity, so we usually spend part of the session learning funky street dance routines, and the other part of the session doing our own choreography. There are no exams but we are working towards performing at this year’s Fountain Gardens Gala day”
The dance classes are possible to due to the youth club receiving funding from “Awards for All”
Community Volunteer Margaret Hicks added: “The service is provided for the community by the community. We all take a great deal of pride in what we do and the kids thoroughly enjoy the dance side of things. It is nice to try something a bit difference and see everyone getting involved.”
