Community Groups members and volunteers from Renfrewshire gathered yesterday at the disability resource centre in Love Street to take part in the first of four sessions in “Scottish Mental Health First Aid”, organised as part PPRC’S ‘C.V.’ training programme. The course is designed to raise awareness of the issues faced by those who suffer from mental health problems and aims to equip them with the necessary skills to respond appropriately.

Julie Bishop, a volunteer from Foxlea family centre said:

“I thoroughly enjoyed today’s session. It gave a glimpse into the world experienced by someone who has mental issues. I have never done anything like this before, and after running my own business for years it is nice to be able to give something back”

The training was delivered to 14 participants and strives to promote the recovery of good mental health, help to prevent the mental health problem developing into a more serious state and provide comfort to a person experiencing a mental health problem.

Audrey Hall of Renfrewshire’s Community Health Partnership who delivered the training said “today’s session was really embraced by all who took part and it was great to see such a good mix of ages. The atmosphere was very comfortable in discussions about a topic which many people find difficult to discuss.”
